Stats

350 participants (230 Runners and walkers; 105 staff and volunteers; 15 FUN RUNS registrants) at the 3rd annual Run for Your Heart event. Clouds threatened to break at any moment. Fortunately, the weather held out and we had a successful event. With the possiblity of inclement weather and the competing forces of both Mother Nature and Mother's Day, runners and walkers entered the starting line together to begin the race. Before and after the race, participants enjoyed the Heart Project jewelry sales. Special thanks to Curves® of New Jersey for collecting used jewelry from its members, and to Lauren Stenftennagel and the Bonner Scholars of The College of New Jersey for managing the collection and cleaning and polishing the jewelry. Thanks to Fides Scalia, RN and Janie Barnayay, RN who coordinated collections of used jewelery from hospital sites and our neighbors in north and south Jersey. And thanks to jewelers who contributed:

  • Forrest Jewelers of Princeton

  • Trent Jewelers of Hamilton

  • Freedman's Jewelers of Ewing

"Special thanks to health partner, Capital Health System, for providing free health screenings and to the generous support of the NJDEP volunteers, especially Robin Heston who organized the jewelry sales and DEP volunteers. Also, thanks to Debbie Walter, Chris Maurer and Mary Lou Beyer for organizing the Children's FUN RUNS, Anna Doremus, RN, for organizing the HEART TRUTH surveys, Joanne Smith of Jazzercise for conducting the warm-ups, and Roseanne and crew for managing the children's face-painting. Finally, the post-event buffet was a welcomed treat for all. WHF is grateful to Wegmans who donated fresh oranges and bottled water, and Johanna Foods who donated delicious LaYogurt - the perfect nourishment after a 5k race. Take Care of Your Heart!"      --Bonnie Arkus
