The Jewelry Project was started in 2005 to help provide much needed funds to the Women's Heart Foundation to help support its wellness, awareness and prevention programs. The Jewelry Project collects unwanted costume jewelry during the months of September, October and November. It is then cleaned and polished by service organizations and made available for resale at different events throughout the year starting February 1, the first day of National Women's Heart Week.
Heart disease kills one woman every minute and takes the lives of six times more women than breast cancer. It is our #1 health threat, killing more women every year than the next seven causes of death combined, including all forms of cancer. Heart disease has killed more women than men every year since 1984, yet it is still mistaken to be a "man’s disease" by both the general public
and medical professionals. Milder symptoms and not recognizing the woman's risk factors are often missed opportunities in health care.
The Foundation has developed award-winning early intervention programs
like TEEN ESTEEM Health and Fitness and WOMEN'S HEART WEEK. This
is how we are making a difference and saving lives!
