Footnote: "Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in women in the United States", says Marianne Balay, MS, RN, Assistant Vice President for Women's Health at RWJUH. "This is a startling statistic, but most people are unaware of it. What's more, women tend to be misdiagnosed more than men because their symptoms may present differently. The Day of Dance will educate women about symptoms as well as the benefits of exercise for cardiovascular health", adds Balay. "As a woman with a family history of cardiovascular disease myself, I am very aware of the fact that many cases of heart disease can be prevented by adopting a healthy lifestyle. Exercise is key to physical fitness --- and as a dancer also, I know that a woman is more apt to be compliant with an exercise program if they're having fun while they're doing it and dance is a fabulous example", states Balay! The Day of Dance will educate women about symptoms as well as the benefits of exercise for cardiovascular health.

“We are educating women about healthy choices they can easily incorporate into their lifestyle, and warning signs they should recognize that could save their lives,” said Marianne Balay. “Moms, daughters, grandmothers and the men who love them will be dancing together while celebrating their differences and similarities. It is my hope that the Day of Dance reaches out to women in a way that they’ve never experienced before. Though the message is serious, they can have a good time dancing and learning.”
