WOMEN'S HEART FOUNDATION RECEIVES GRANT FROM
THE HORIZON FOUNDATION FOR NEW JERSEY FOR
$15,000 TO FUND THE TEEN ESTEEM PROGRAM

Trenton, NJ- January 2009 – The Women’s Heart Foundation (WHF) has received a grant in the amount of $15,000 from the Horizon Foundation for New Jersey. The grant will fund the WHF Teen Esteem program.

“This grant from The Horizon Foundation for New Jersey will enable the Women’s Heart Foundation to continue our important work to institute prevention programs for vulnerable at-risk teens”, said Bonnie Arkus, WHF founder and executive director. “The Teen Esteem Health and Fitness program at Trenton Central high School will benefit 150 adolescent girls combating esteem issues, obesity and early risk factors for heart disease related to lifestyle”.

The WHF Teen Esteem project was started in 2003 with seed money from the NJ Office on Women’s Health. It is a comprehensive approach to teen girl health and is implemented with stakeholders to help the girls make better health choices that will follow them through their lives. The program entered its 5th year this past September and a record number of students signed up for this elective gym-alternative class.

“We are delighted to partner with the Women’s Heart Foundation”, said Larry Altman, Executive Director of The Horizon Foundation for New Jersey. “The Horizon Foundation for New Jersey is dedicated to supporting charitable organizations making an impact in the lives of people across New Jersey.”
