WOMEN'S HEART FOUNDATION HOLDS 2nd ANNUAL WEAR RED NEW JERSEY DAY


300 Women attend Women's Heart Luncheon with Red Dress Trunk Show at Trenton War Memorial, in association with WHF's 14th annual Women's Heart Week; joins forces with NJ-DHSS, Region II Office on Women's Health, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority and Lord and Taylor to reach out to women



Trenton, NJ, Feb 25, 2007   RED was the color of the day as 300 women attended the Women's Heart Luncheon with a Red Dress Trunk Show at the War Memorial. Wearing their finest fashions to help raise awareness of women's #1 killer, celebrate heart health and commemorate those who have made successful lifestyle changes. The program was in association with the 14th annual Women's Heart Foundation Women's Heart Week campaign when women are reminded to "take care of your heart", and the national Heart Truth WEAR RED FOR WOMEN initiative. The free event was funded by the Delta Sigma Theta Corporation, Trenton Fortitude Chapter and the Women's Heart Foundation with the support of its sponsors: RVing Women, Capital Health System and the St. Francis Medical Center. In-kind sponsors included DHHS Region II Office on Women's Health, Lord and Taylor and the NJ Department of Health and Senior Services. Product support came from POM Wonderful, Health Magazine, Earthbound, Fresh Pack, Wegmans, Barbaro Bakery, Harris Teas, Elizabeth Arden Red Door Spas, Lord and Taylor, Brillman's Rental Barn, and Delta Sigma Theta.

Doreen Dixon of Delta Sigma Theta welcomed everyone to the event and read a proclamation from the Governor for WEAR RED NJ day. Peri Nearon, director of the Office on Women's Health, then delivered a proclamation for the 14th annual Women's Heart Week issed by the state legislature, spearheaded by Assemblywoman Bonnie Watson Coleman. A heart-healthy lunch was served, followed by keynote presentation titled "The Heart Truth About Women's Heart Disease" by Frederik Seinfeld, MD, cardiovascular surgeon at the St. Francis Medical Center - the Heart Hospital of Trenton. Director of Chronic Disease Management Doreleena Sammons-Posey delivered the invocation and shared an inspiring personal story about her recent success at incorporating healthy lifestyle changes. Christian Redding Cruz of Lord and Taylor served as emcee for the RED DRESS Trunk Show that featured a lovely array of fashions to fit women of all sizes. Blood pressure screenings were offered by Capital Health System nurses Winsome Bright and Maryanne Cavallaro. Each attendee received a parting red goodie bag with free gifts and coupons. Some of the many exciting door prizes included a $450 gift basket from Elizabeth Arden, a spa day, and a day with a a personal shopper at Lord and Taylor along with a $250 gift certificate toward the purchase of clothes.

Lord and Taylor was recognized with the Corporate Leadership award. Rosalyn Council received the Executive Leadership award and Dr. Fred Seinfeld, the award for Distinguished Medicine.

The Women's Heart Foundation is the only Non-Governmental Organization that designs and implements demonstration projects for the prevention of heart disease in women and is dedicated to improving survival and quality of life.
